THE PEACOCK THRONE
The peacock throne was Shah Jahan's chef d'oeuvre, by which he is to be remembered and judged. Historically speaking its design or decorartion was not evolved out of any pre-existing specimen.
The builing of the peacock throne is a conspicious landmark in the world's artistic creation. Those who consider it to be only a very costly work of art miss the entire point. Only on very rare occasions have beauty and wealth been so well wedded together. The only pity is the exteme costiness of the material and delicacy of workmanship proved, but a poor guarentee against destruction when political vicissitudes exposed the throne to the vulger greed of the barbarian.
THE CONSTUCTION OF THE THRONE:
(The following is the translation of the text Badshahnama)
In the course of the years many valuable gems had come into the imperial jewel-house, each one which could adorn the girdle of the sun.Upon the accession of the emperor, it occured to him that, the accusation of such rare jewels and the keeping of such brilliants can only render one service, that of adorning the throne of an empire. They ought to be put to such a use , that beholders might share in and benefit by their splendour, and the majesty might shine with increased brilliancy. It was accordingly ordered that, in addition to the jewels in the imperial jewel-house, Rubies, Garnets, Diamonds , Rich pearls and Emeralds should be brought for the inspection of the emperor, and they, with some exquisite jewels of great weight , exceeding 50,000 miskals , and worth eighty lacs of rupees ,having been carefully selected, should be ahnded over to Be-badal khan, the superintent of the goldsmith's department. There was also to be given pure gold- one lakh tolas.
The outside of the canopy was to be of enamel work with occasional gems, the inside ws to be thickly set with rubies, garnets and other jewels, it was to be supported by twelve emerald columns. On top of each pillar there were to be two peacocks thick set with gems , and between the peacocks a tree set with rubies ,diamonds ,emeralds and pearls. The peacock throne is now said to be in Iran but most of us dont even know if its the same throne. i mean it obviously isnt this the same throne , but we dont know wherther it was built on the same lines of the first one.
Anyway, the peacock throne is one cool chair to sit on!

THE GOSPEL OF JOHN

The gospel of john starts like this
" In the begining was the word , and the word was with god , and the word was god"

I Read the gospel of john today its really hard to describe it, so ive decided not to, amd instead iam gonna describe another book that i read 2day its called " The peacock" and its about the national bird of india - the peacock
The peacock has always been a controversial bird , was the choice of it as the national bird based on sentiment? the peafowl was already the national bird of burma.
Yes the decision to designate the peacock as the national bird was taken on sentimental grounds, the bird enjoyed a certain amount of protection almost everywhere in india, perhaps no other bird is a symbol of so many qualities- grace,
pride, frendliness, caution and not to forget community spirit .
The peacock is a native of southern india and is found all over tamilnadu, it is distributed throughout India and Srilanka , it is plentiful in the wid parts of west bengal.
These birds love the typical Indian pre- monsoon weather, and are afraid of civilised brethren , but Bombay can still boost of peacocks they are found in the Cumballa and
Malabar hills of Bombay , I have found the history of the peacock throne very interesting, but will explain it in detail in my next blog so iam not mentioning it here.
A peacock dance is almost synonymous with rain , these birds absolutely love to flutter thier beautiful feathers in the wind , and that is known as a peacock dance.
In my opinion India couldnt have had a better national bird than the peacock and it is a absolutely wise choice. Hats off to the peacock

THE MONK WHO STOLE MY HEART!

The first time i heard about him was when a girl at a party, remarked how he had changed her life, oh i bet she hasnt even understood half of his thoughts, that little wannabe was dressed like j lo gone wrong. but ofcourse that was enough to catapult me to know more about him, and i found out too ,sooner than i had expected,he was everywhere, listings, newspapers, magazines absolutely everywhere. I was all anxious to know about the monk who sold his ferrari so i rushed to the bookstore, much to the surprise of my mother who simply doesnt seem to understand why iam philosophical at times , she must be thinking ive lost it or something. Its not that iam all spiritual or something, But ive known for a fact that one's destiny can be reached only if our inner self really wants to.So this guy Julian mantle, he is a mega rich lawer who's got everything that he's ever wanted, but one day he suffers from a heart attack, fortunately doesnt die and then dissapears without a trace. Now this lawer was very sucessful in the hypercompetetive world of law and the world misses him. but wonders of wonders ,
Julian returns after a few years and he shocks his student and friend john ,he was now a totally transformed julian looking absolutely happy, smiling , youthful and in peak health.what was the cause of the transformation.?? oh now comes the interesting part ,
he had found the long forgotten sages of sivana and had changed his life as per thier
suggestions.
Some things i learnt from "The monk who sold his ferrari":
1. Develop joyful thoughts.
2. Follow life's mission and calling.
3. Act courageously.
4. Value Time.
5. Nourish relationships.
6. Live fully, one day at a time.

Maybe i dont really have a aim in life ,but i have a purpose ,thats good isnt it!

Life is a jest , and all things show it;
I thought so once, but now i know it.

12/may/2006 TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE STAR!

vannilavidya's favourite stars

Twinkle twinkle little star!
How i wonder what you are,
Up above the world so high,
Like a diamond in the sky!
-- ANN TAYLOR,The star

Stars shine in the dark and simply look beautiful, famous people shine in their respective fields and hence we admire them, this blog is about my favourite stars . I have lots of favourite stars ranging from Salman khan to Rahul easwar, some of them being Pritviraj, Suresh gopi, biju menon etc...

Suresh gopi

My favourite action hero, he simply and elegantly keeps the macho man look even at this age.in a recent movie ,Lanka, gopi looked younger than ever, He seems to be getting younger by the day. Dialouge delivery and action being his strong points suresh gopi will outshine young stars for atleast a few more years.

Biju menon

A bundle of acting skills in him he can pull off any role, married heroine samyutha verma and now is not seen in leading roles, does his best to prove his acting abilities. Best: in the role of police offlcers.

PRITVIRAJ

This chocolate hero's first movie was nandanam , later seen in a variety of romanantic flicks and some action roles too, proved his acting skills with 'Agale' . Constantly linked with co stars, pritvi managed to create a niche for himself and cast a spell on girls .

Melodious songs and me!

O MUSIC,SPHERE-DESCENDED MAID,
FRIEND OF PLEASURE,WISDOM'S AID.

I spent the morning listening to some really good songs, from those two mp3 cds i got when i went to planet M the other day. iam feeling all rejuvinated and happy now, its all because of those beautifully sweet songs.Oh! music can really transend us to various places, i suddenly remembered ravi chettan when i heard the song 'ennu varim ne' from kannagi. That cd has lots of my favourite including maranitumendino.

I really miss ravi chettan and his melodious songs.its a really long time since ive spoken to him and thats making me sad now. you know how long it is since i watched my favourite shows on tv ,its a really long time. ive got lots of studies pending but i never seem to finish it properly, i just hope all this doesnt pay up later.when i have time i never have any interesting books to read but now when iam supposed to be studying i have lots of nice books, including digital fortress which i just cant seem to finish, odd!, considering my reading speed.Ive also got O Hendry's stories which one can never get bored of, i read 'gift of the magi 'and 'last leaf all over again.Sue, Johnsy and Behrman have become my friends now, Della and JamesDillingham hold a permenent place in my heart. speaking of Della onother important thing in my life right now is that iam going to cut my hair, not very short , iam keeping the length , iam making it a little shorter than it originally was. I just remembered something , which iam gonna write down now
Babies havent any hair;
Old men's heads are just as bare;
Between the cradle and the grave
Lies a haircut and a shave.

ELECTION DAY!

Acchan is still not talking properly to anyone he is still angry, no one knows anything about his mood swings. but, he came home for lunch at around 2.30pm, Sathyabhama and Diwakaran were here , you know what! there son is getting married , they have invited us but we arent going as the wedding is at mumbai.Ammuma made fish curry specially for them but Diwakaran did not eat the fish,he had only the curry, she also made kesari(a sweet) which wasnt that good , but it wasnt exactly a disaster.Sathyabhama and Divakaran left at around 3.20pm after which all of us rested for some time, i even studied for some time.

After resting for some time amma and me decided to go to the beach ,we went by scooter as i
was too lazy to walk, we had a good time on the beach walking across the sand and munching on peanuts enjoying the breeze wholeheartedly. After coming back home we went to tne terrace to enjoy the breeze and the good air for some more time,it was from there that we saw Bhaskaran coming on seeing him amma went down but ammuma and me stayed there .
Bhaskaran uncle stayed for dinner and enjoyed the fish curry.

09/may/2006
I dint notice the beauty of the morning sun today when i went for a walk, weierd, considering that i had noticed it even yesterday evening. anyway these morning walks are making me feel healthier by the day.The beach has become a place of mass recreation, anyway its atleast better than going for movies or spending time watching tv, any time spent with the family is not time that is wasted but time that is spent in understanding them better and helping the family grow, and everytime you grow you should grow out of something.
My parents are very worried about me, i can understand their feelings but iam equally worried
all this talk about IIT and other colleges is making me tensed and touchy all the time.
"The only fear we have to fear is fear itself ", but i fear the unknown and IIT is my latest
fear the thought of not getting into IIT is sending shockwaves into my system and iam loosing my stamina and thinking power. I know iam not very brainy but i have untouched potential in me. what will ignite that? like every other normal humanbeing i aim at making my life sublime
but will i be able to toil hard for that? god is the only one that can answer.

ENGLISH! at its best.

Today we had onother session of english with Geeta padmanaban,a talented newspaper journalist. It was really awesome, my love for the language just seems to be growing by the day.oh! i must tell you about the fun i has at spencer plaza yesterday , i had gone to ethraj
college to get the application form and on the way back we went to spencer, we were actually
searching for a shop called planet M as we had got a free gift coupon from that shop but it was a boring shop there was hardly anything that could hold our attention for more than 10 minutes.
we had lunch at the foodcourt there, there was a chocolate fountain there which we totally enjoyed, its the first time that i ever ate at a chocolat fountain though i have seen it on tv.

I was just speaking to my dad he feels that my chances of getting into iit are good , oh god!
i just hope his words come true. IIT is a brand and i want to be a part of it and also considering the fact that i spent so much on it i have every reason to hope.

Iam going to the bank with ammuma today , one of my most favourite errands, its an outing that ia totally enjoy. ammuma (my most favourite companion after mutachan) is someone i love with all my heart. she cares for me and prays for me everyday without expecting much in return.
thats all for now!

WILL I MAKE IT INTO ONE OF THE BIG COLLEGES OF CHENNAI
colleges are always a matter of personal tension to me, iam always worried
wherther i will make it into one of the good or shall i say"best" colleges in
chennai.
today me and amma are going to ethraj college, its a premier institution, and
only students scoring high marks can get into it,but some people have been
telling me that because i am applying for BA-English chances of me getting
in are high. Iam praying at the moment, will my love for languages give me
an entry into a good college?
ok, speaking of other things iam reading a book at the moment Dan brown's
"Digital fortress", its a nice book though i dint like it as much as The DA VINCI
CODE because that ,is my favourite book i really and truly enjoyed reading it.
there arent many things in the world that can give me more happiness than
reading though of course i try to find happiness in everything i do .
well, iam hungry now let me rush off.
live!
