BOOK REVIEW.

By the river pampa I stood
By
Geetha Abraham jose.

This novel spans over generations and is based on the life of Syrian Christians in kerala
The story revolves around the life of a woman, the protagonist of the novel is annamachi. A woman who broke rules and reversed the dos and donts that convention demanded of her.

The book is set in a backdrop where the feudal lords reigned and social discrimination was the order of the day. The very social setup makes the most loved daughter of the house hate the strong social differences prevalent in the village. Their house is referred to as "The Gold House" and the power and influence the feudal lords had in the village is evident from the style of story telling.

After Thoma, a farm workers son rescues annamachis life from the raging waters of the pampa river, the beautiful high caste Syrian Christian girl falls in love with him. And later when her father, Mathen wants her to get married to another boy, a Syrian Christian, she confesses about her relationship to her father who takes extreme steps to remove the boy from the scene.

The rest of annamachis life is spent in a place away from their village, and annamachi returns to her village years later to find that she would never again feel at home in her own house.

The novel is packed with surprises and as the tale unfolds one can find new twists and turns in the even otherwise interesting story, the riddles of their lives were being solved but not in a manner that one would adopt to solve riddles.

"By the river pampa I stood" is not a book which would set your pulse racing when reading it, but it would make you come back to it and read it again, the author has definitely succeeded in sustaining the attention of the readers from the beginning till the end of the book and the various surprise elements in between.

Ways to spoil a perfectly beautiful Saturday.

Join Ba- journalism in Mop vaishnav college, they ll make you go to college even on Saturday.

Miss all the buses, go sit in the 41-c, realize that another bus has come, it will take you to coll faster than this one, but miss that also coz the driver has come into this one. Cry out, when the driver steps out of the bus, (he had come 2 drink water)

Reach College at 8.20, miss morning attendance, swear loudly in class.

Do nothing at all, just hang around messaging your old friends, singing songs, walking in the corridor etc.

Now the sad part,

A girl comes to the class and announces, -all journalism students can go to meghdooth, for the Hindi –culturals. (Or something like that), please go silently.

Go silently?????? Excuseee me

Ok, so then proceed to meghdooth, and sit there for about 2 and a half hours doing absolutely nothing. Well others were sleeping, I couldn’t do even that, it was bitterly cold, and I was terribly hungry.

Go back to class, and realise you ve to wait.

:-( the only nice thing that hpnd was that we got 2 go home early, (if 15 minutes b4 usual time is early).

Waaaaaahhh.

I just cant get enough cribbing bout coll.

When Art meets the Heart.

Nature has endowed this universe with so many beautiful life forms of so many different shapes sizes and abilities, most animal forms have the capability to communicate using various sounds. Man is unique in that he can express his thoughts using sound.

The very presence of nature and the role that it plays in man was evident in the campus of The music college in Adayar. Known for creating the greatest musicians and dancers of all times the ambience of this college would probably bring to your minds the long forgotten gurukula system, though it is not practiced there. The campus and the atmosphere of the college is rich in its culture and tradition.

The students of this college claim that they have followed their heart by joining this college and many of them also claim that they had to go against their parents wishes initially, their love and dedication to the art is evident from the enthusiasm they showed when questioned about the college.

The principal of the college proudly states that the students are not only learning but also earning as they learn as the college gives them direct on the field exposure. The college boasts of courses, which no other college in the world offers. Apart from the usual Carnatic music and Bharatanatiyam this college also offers courses in various musical instruments like Veena, Violin, Mridangam etc, and the folk arts of tamilnadu like Karagatam, Kavadiatam, Poikalkudirai, and Oyilatam etc.

Only practice can make us master the art, and our college ensures we get enough of it says a student of the college, on being questioned as to why she joined the college, her reply was that she had always wanted to pursue her interest in dance seriously, and by joining a degree course in that subject she was able to devote total attention and time to it.
Another student added that music was his passion and in this college it was a serious thing, and that he has always wanted his passion to become his profession.

With an impressing list of alumni, which includes people like P.Susheela and T.M. Soundarajan, this is certainly not "another" college.
